The Collingwood Business Improvement Association (CBIA) boundaries run along Kingsway from Rupert Street to the west and Boundary Road to the east. Kingsway is a major transportation corridor with approximately 40,000 – 50,000 vehicles traveling it per day. There are over 350 businesses in the area that employ approximately 5,761 employees. With strong anchor tenants, and a growing residential base, the Collingwood BIA shows potential for continued growth. Collingwood is a predominantly service oriented community that markets to over 35,000 local area residents. Commercial businesses catering to ethnically diverse and larger family oriented households will find a solid market base in Collingwood.
Chinese is the dominant household language for area residents however there are many other languages heard in the area, including Punjabi, Tagalog (Filipino), Vietnamese and Hindi. Collingwood is one of the oldest established neighbourhoods in Vancouver dating back to the late 1800’s. .
The community is proud of its history, ethnicity, multiculturalism and community spirit. Sir Guy Carleton Elementary School is one of the oldest operating schools in BC dating back to the early 1900’s. Avalon Dairy, a family owned business established in the early 1900’s, is also located in the community and is the oldest continuously operating dairy in BC.
Collingwood’s deep community roots allow for great partnerships to development with local non-profit groups, businesses, individuals and the Business Improvement Association. The CBIA works closely with the Collingwood Community Policing Centre (CCPC) to offer programs that assist local businesses and residents in their efforts to keep the community safe. The CBIA also works closely with the Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) to provide programs, education and information to area residents and businesses. The annual Collingwood Days is an example of a community partnership between the CBIA, CCPC and CNH.
